Introduction

The Course

A Course is the definition of the subject matter that will be covered in the classes teaching the course.

A Class

The technical definition of a Class is an instantiation of the following objects:

Sessions

Each time a class is held at a specific time on a specific date constitutes a Session of that class. Sessions are scheduled automatically based on the Academic Terms during which the class is defined to run, the Session Frequency, the Start Date and End Date and the Session Day(s) defined for the class.

The sessions of a class are scheduled to run from the Start Date through to teh End Date defined for the Class. The Start Date may not be earlier than the start of Term 1 (except for Summer School classes which may not start before the start of Term 5).

Sessions are not scheduled to run on public holidays or in the vacation period between the terms. Classes may be scheduled to run during the vacations following first, second and third terms, but not following the end of 4th Term when Summer School takes over). This is done by ticking "NoVac" when defining the class.

Term 5 is reserved for Summer School classes held over the summer break.

Tutors and Leaders

Each person involved in leading or enrolling in classes must be defined as a Member of this U3A. Leaders who are not enrolled in other classes must be defined as Honorary Members.

Venues

There are a separate series of apps that handle the definition and contacting of Venues.

Calendar

This defines the start and finish dates of each of the academic terms as laid down by the U3A Committee Of Management. The starting point is the school terms calendar as defined by the State Education Department. Public Holidays are also included in the Calendar as gazetted by the State Government. The Calendar is handled in a separate App maintained by the Administration Co-ordinator in accordance with the policy laid down by the Committee of Management.
